A Letter from Ms. Plemons
Hello! My name is Crystal Plemons and I will be one of the four Resource/Inclusion Teachers at Teravista this year. I am very excited to be working closely with Mrs. Claypool, Mrs. Moody, and Mrs. Rose. We are fortunate to have four fabulous Educational Assistants (Mrs. Klaus, Mrs. Pulver, Mrs. Chidester, and Mr. Frazier) who will be helping us meet our students needs.
For those of you who don't know me, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have been involved in the area of Special Education for almost 30 years. I began by volunteering in a classroom at Rosedale School in Austin ISD when I was 16 years old. Rosedale is a school specifically for students with developmental disabilities. While I worked my way through college, I worked for United Cerebral Palsy Association for three years as an in-home respite care provider. Eventually, I became a Teacher Assistant at Rosedale and for five years I worked in classrooms with students from the age of three all the way up to the age of twenty-one. Following my years as a Teacher Assistant, I worked for Austin ISD as a Supported Employment Specialist. In this position, I assisted high school aged students with disabilities in obtaining a job in the community. I graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Special Education in August 2000. In August 2004, I received a Master’s Degree in Special Education with a minor in Educational Administration from Texas State University. I spent three years teaching a Functional Life Skills classroom in Austin ISD before moving to Round Rock ISD. I taught a Functional Academics Classroom in Round Rock ISD for ten years, with four of those being right here at Teravista Elementary, before I moved into the Resource/Inclusion Classroom. I previously taught at Cactus Ranch Elementary and Caldwell Heights Elementary. This will be my 12th year at Teravista.
On a personal note, I am not married and have no children, but I do share my home with a very spoiled dog! Charlie is a German Shepherd Mix. He joined my family in December 2014, when he was 9 weeks old. In my spare time, I love to read books on my Kindle, catch a movie at Flix, go to the park with my dog, and relax with friends at Starbuck's or Chuy's! I have lived in the Austin/Round Rock area for most of my life and am fortunate that most of my family still lives nearby. I am very excited about beginning a new school year at Teravista. I look forward to seeing some old familiar faces and getting to know all of the new faces. I feel honored to be given the privilege to work with your child and I am looking forward to a fun-filled year of learning and new experiences!
